Master Bathroom
with Freestanding Tub.
Full master bathroom renovation in Toronto featuring continuous large-format Calacatta porcelain, freestanding soaker tub, frameless glass shower, double vanity with LED backlit mirror and under-cabinet lighting, and black matte fixtures throughout.
About This Project
The clients wanted a master bathroom that felt genuinely luxurious without being cold. The Calacatta marble-look porcelain they selected does exactly that — bold white with dramatic grey veining that reads as classic and high-end, but as a large-format porcelain tile it is far more practical than real marble. It runs continuously from the floor across the walls into the shower, giving the entire room a unified quality that looks deliberate rather than assembled from separate pieces.
The layout centres the freestanding soaker tub against the marble feature wall, positioned below the window for natural light. The ornate black wire globe chandelier above it introduces a design contrast that pulls the room away from the purely contemporary. The surrounding tile field and the clean geometry of the frameless shower are thoroughly modern, but the chandelier and the plantation shutters bring a warmth and character that stops the space from feeling like a hotel room.
The Double Vanity
The double vanity is a strong anchor on the opposite wall. Slate-grey cabinetry with black matte bar handles sits under a dark stone countertop with two undermount sinks and black matte faucets. The LED backlit mirror runs the full width of the vanity, creating even diffused lighting across the face while the marble tile backsplash fills the wall behind it. The detail that elevates the whole unit is the under-cabinet LED strip recessed into the toe kick, casting warm light across the Calacatta floor below. It is a subtle element that pays off particularly at night.
The Shower
The frameless glass shower continues the Calacatta tile from the main bathroom floor and walls without interruption. The separation between the shower zone and the tub zone is a single glass panel and the change from wet area to dry area, with no curb and no visual barrier breaking the continuous tile field. Black matte rain head, handheld, and valve controls are consistent with the hardware choices throughout the rest of the bathroom. Wedi Pro certified waterproofing was used throughout the shower assembly. The homeowners have a written 10-year waterproofing warranty on the full wet area.
