Luxury Sauna and
Wellness Suite.
A complete custom wellness suite built in Toronto featuring a hammam steam room with book-matched marble slabs, cedar sauna, brass waterfall shower with built-in bench, and a carved stone vessel sink. Every zone built to Wedi Pro certified waterproofing standards.
About This Project
This is one of the most technically demanding projects we have completed. The clients wanted a full home wellness suite built from the ground up — not a prefabricated sauna dropped into a spare room, but a custom multi-zone space designed around the way they actually use it. The result covers four distinct environments within a single continuous build: a hammam-style steam room, a cedar sauna, a shower room, and a wet room with a carved stone vessel sink. Every zone connects to the next, and every surface was chosen with both aesthetics and long-term performance in mind.
The Hammam Steam Room
The centrepiece of the project is the hammam-inspired steam room. The feature wall uses book-matched large-format porcelain slabs in deep blue-grey with dramatic white and teal veining — two panels mirror-matched at the seam so the veining flows symmetrically. LED strip lighting is recessed into the ceiling-to-wall junction on both sides, creating a sharp V of warm light that traces the corner geometry. The tiered concrete-look bench steps down toward the centre of the room. Dark large-format slate-look porcelain covers the floor and remaining walls, keeping the focus on the marble feature. All surfaces were waterproofed to Wedi Pro certified standard given the sustained moisture load of a steam environment.
The Shower Room
The shower zone uses the same dark slate-look porcelain throughout floor, walls, and ceiling — a fully continuous surface with no transitions. The centrepiece is a built-in stone bench with a wall-mounted brass waterfall spout pouring directly onto it, paired with a brass handheld and separate volume controls. Recessed ceiling lighting keeps the space functional without breaking the dark, immersive atmosphere. The brass hardware was selected to introduce warmth against the near-black tile palette.
The Cedar Sauna and Wet Room
The sauna zone features a cedar plank ceiling with concrete-look large-format porcelain on the walls and floor. Black matte fixtures including a slim wall-mount handheld and square valve contrast against the light grey stone. A traditional wooden sauna bucket is mounted overhead — a functional detail that anchors the authenticity of the space. Adjacent to the sauna, the wet room is finished in microcement-look large-format porcelain with a carved natural stone vessel sink. The organic veining of the stone sits against smooth grey walls and a wood slat ceiling overhead, with wall-mounted matte black faucet and simple black towel hooks. Linear floor drain runs the full width at the base of the wet room wall.
The waterproofing on a project like this is significantly more complex than a standard bathroom. Steam rooms and saunas cycle through extreme temperature and humidity swings that place unusual stress on waterproofing assemblies and adhesive bonds. The Wedi Pro system was used throughout all wet and steam zones, with reinforced detailing at every transition between environments. The homeowners have a written 10-year waterproofing warranty covering all wet area assemblies.
